FYI, launched in 2013, NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) is the operational name for the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). Developed for military and commercial purposes, NavIC has much better accuracy (a position accuracy of better than 20 meters in the primary service area).

As per the report, the Indian government wants to bring NavIC support on all smartphones sold in India to reduce the dependence on foreign navigation systems such as US’s GPS, Russia’s GLONASS, etc.
