Asus releases Android 9 Pie beta for ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL and available for download. The update carries the build number WW_16.0200.1903.25 and available for global variant ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL. Note that this is the AOSP (Pie) version and note the ZenUI version of Android 9 Pie. Below are the download link and installation guide.
Asus officially confirmed Android 9 Pie upgrade plan for over 12 ZenFone smartphones released in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The company already updated some of them to Pie and will upgrade some of them to Android Q. Asus already starts Android Q beta testing for Zenfone 5Z.
ZenFone 4 Max is included in the Android 9 Pie update list and the software build WW_16.0200.1903.25 bring the beta version of the ROM to the phone. Early adopters and power users who have knowledge on Android firmware can download and install the build on their phone.
Before jump into the software installation process on your phone, keep in mind that this is the Android 9 (Pie) AOSP Beta version and not the ZenUI. The user experience will be different from the Android 8.0 Oreo. In addition, this version will not support OTA update.

Installation guide:
1. Transfer the downloaded firmware zip file (download link above) to root directory of your phone’s internal storage.
2. Reboot your phone. You should see firmware update notification pop up on the status bar.
3. Tap on System Update File Detected… and follow the steps shown to update the firmware.
