The Adaptive Sound feature in Google Pixel phones improves sound quality by automatically adjusting the sound settings. It uses the phone’s microphone to determine the noise in the environment around you and makes adjustments accordingly to enhance the speaker’s sound quality. This feature was exclusive to Pixel devices and was introduced as part of the December 2020 Feature Drop update.
However, the Adaptive Sound option is currently missing from the Sound settings on Pixel phones. It appears that Google has removed this useful feature for reasons that are not entirely clear. Fortunately, there is a workaround to restore it. Here’s how you can do it.
The Adaptive Sound process occurs locally on your device. All audio captured by the microphones is deleted shortly after it is recorded. Since this processing is done entirely on your device, it ensues that the audio and background conversations never leave your device. No audio data is sent to Google.
How to Bring Back Adaptive Sound Feature in Pixel Phones
1. Download Google’s Platform Tools to your PC and unzip the contents.
2. Next, enable Enable Developer Options on your Pixel phone, and in Developer Options enable USB Debugging.
3. Now, connect the phone to your computer using the original USB cable.
4. Now, open Command Prompt in the platform-tools folder and type the following command: adb shell
5. You will receive a prompt on your phone; please confirm it.
6. Now, execute the command below:
device_config put device_personalization_services AdaptiveAudio__enable_adaptive_audio true
7. This will enable Adaptive Sound on your Google Pixel phone.
To enable Adaptive Sound in Pixel phones, open the Settingsapp and select the Sound & Vibration option. In Sound settings, tap on Adpative Sound and on the next page toggle on the option.
By following these straightforward steps, you can successfully bring back the Adaptive Sound feature on your Pixel device and enjoy an enhanced audio experience. Note that Adaptive Sound may be less noticeable at higher volumes. (source)
