Microsoft has introduced advertisements within the Start Menu of Windows 11. Currently, these ads are visible in the preview build, and they are expected to persist in the Windows 11 stable build, which is slated for release next month. Specifically, the ads appear in the Recommended section of the Start Menu.
Currently, Windows 11’s Start menu displays advertisements that promote specific apps and games available on the Microsoft Store. Also, the Recommended section of the Start Menu will display frequently used apps that have not been pinned to the Start Menu or taskbar yet.
According to Microsoft, “The Recommended section of the Start menu will show some Microsoft Store apps. These apps come from a small set of curated developers. This will help you to discover some of the great apps that are available.”
Showing ads, frequently used apps, files, and recently added programs in the Start Menu can be an annoyance. However, according to Microsoft, “ads may show up on non-managed Windows 11 devices only”.
Fortunately, you have the option to disable these ads. Here’s how you can do it:
How to Disable Start Menu Ads on Windows 11?
- Open the Start Menu and select “Settings”.
- In Settings, select “Personalization” and click the “Start” option.
- Turn off the “Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more” option.
That is all about how to disables ads or promotion of third-party apps and games in the recommended section of Windows 11 Start Menu.
