The latest version of LineageOS 16 based on Android 9 Pie is now available for Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The community-driven custom ROM brings several features, latest security patches, and extensive customization options to the phone. Here’s how to install official LineageOS 16 on Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

The LOS development team has recently updated the LineageOS ROM with several changes and new features. Though the team has removed support for Zenfone Max Pro M1 (X00TD) not long ago, the good news is that the phone returned to the official update list with first LineageOS 16.0 nightly build.

Installing LineageOS 16 on Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (X00TD) isn’t a too complicated process if you already have unlocked the bootloader and replaced the stock recovery with a custom TWRP recovery.

Requisites

TWRP installed on the phone
ADB and Fastboot setup on the computer
More than 50% battery charge remaining on the phone
Back up of user data, apps and media

Installation Instruction

    • Copy and paste LineageOS zip file and Gapps zip file inside the ADB installation folder on your computer.
    • Switch off the phone and boot it into TWRP using Power + Volume Down buttons
    • Tap Backup button and create a backup. Copy the file to your PC.
    • Tap Wipe button, then click Format Data and then continue the process.
    • Return to Wipe menu and tap Advanced Wipe. Select the Cache and System partitions and then swipe to wipe.
    • In TWRP main menu, click Advanced and then ADB Sideload. Swipe the bar at the bottom to initiate the sideload command on the recovery menu side
    • On your computer, go to ADB folder and open a command window/terminal.
    • In the command prompt execute the below command:

adb sideload filename.zip (windows)

./adb sideload filename.zip (Mac/Linux)

[Replace ‘filename’ with original file name]

  • Repeat the step 7 to install Gapps.zip files and other add-ons like Magisk
  • Once installation has finished, return to the main menu, click Reboot button, and then System.
  • Your phone will reboot into LineageOS. Setup and enjoy. If you come across bootloop, reboot the phone into TWRP and then wipe cache and dalvik/ART cache.
