Skip the Start Screen and Boot Directly to Desktop on Windows 8 (Quick Tip)

0

Are you running Windows 8 on a desktop PC or on a standard laptop? Hate its new touch focused Start Screen and want to skip the Start Screen and boot directly to desktop? Here is how you can easily do that with a simple app by Gigabyte.

There are plenty of apps available to facilitate the same function; Gigabyte’s “Smart Switch” is a standalone application that can bring back the boot-to-desktop function on Windows 8 PCs.

Also, it brings missing power options such as shutdown, sleep, hibernate, etc. to desktop, so you can easily shutdown your PC.

Smart Switch requires no technical knowhow to setup. Just run it (no installation is needed), choose your default Home Screen (Desktop UI or Modern UI) and confirm the settings. If you choose Desktop UI, it’ll make small changes in the registry with your permission.

My favorite app for bringing start menu as well as boot to desktop option to Windows 8 is Classic Shell. This free and open-source application offers the ‘classic’ version for the Start Menu and offers some UI tweaks for Windows Explorer as well. The app offers plenty of options and is a great free alternative to bring back the original Start Menu to Windows 8.

Smart Switch can be downloaded free from developer’s website here. [Via – Jkwebtalks]
