Camera apps for Android phones are available in abundance in both free and paid versions. The recently launched ‘Camera Super Pixel’ app lets you take high-resolution photos (up to 4X) on your Nexus phone with enhanced sharpness and low noise. For example, the Nexus 5X’s 12.3MP camera sensor can take a picture at a resolution of 48.8 MP. This app utilizes Android’s new Camera 2 API to shoot high-resolution photos.

The Camera Super Pixel app does not work with all Android devices. It supports only the device that is able to use the “burst mode” and support the new Camera 2 API. It means right now the app is compatible with Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P. However, the developer is working to add support for other devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, One Plus 2, LG G4, etc.

At present, the status of ‘Camera Super Pixel’ is Beta, which means the app is not bug free and you will miss some functions. For example, it does not have flash support, and it is optimized for static scenes only. The result may not be good with moving scenes.

The Camera Super Pixel is an interesting project for Android phones and it certainly deserves to be a good move for future developments of camera app for Android smartphones.

The ‘Camera Super Pixel’ is a free download on Play store, but it includes ads, which can be removed by a small in-app purchase. Interested users can try the app by installing it from Play store [HERE].
