If you enjoy watching YouTube videos on Facebook, Twitter or Google+, here is an innovative solution to open the video clip in a movable window rather than opening it in a new tab or embedded in the page, so that you can continue browsing the page without losing sight of the video. Just drag the video window to a convenient location to see the rest of the page while watching the video. Here is how it is.

ViewTube is a useful Chrome extension for watching YouTube videos on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. It opens the video clip in a movable window rather than opening it in a new tab or embedded in the page.

Besides, it includes a full description of the video, comments and related videos. You can like (or dislike) videos directly to YouTube and even post comments, without having to click over to YouTube.

Interested users can install ViewTube from Chrome Web Store here (no configurations are required) and enjoy watching video on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ in regular, large or full screen mode in a movable window.

You might have noticed that some web services start its URL with “https” instead of common “http”. The “s” denotes your computer is communicating with the site through a secure connection, so nobody can steal your confidential information. However, most popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc currently have limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it hard to use for common people.

Similarly, by default some websites have unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. Here is how to forces such sites to use secure https instead of http with a Chrome extension Use HTTPS.

Use HTTPS is a Google Chrome extension that allows you to browse the Internet using a secure connection. Currently this extension supports Facebook and Twitter only, but you can add any site (that support https, but limited support) in the list from the extension option page.

For that, go to chrome://settings/extensions and choose Use ‘HTTPS options’ .Enter a site address into the ‘Add site’ box, and test the https connection with ‘Test’ button. If it is OK save the site address.

From the additional option page of Use HTTPS, you can disable (or enable) all sites listed from using https. Also, you can show the Use HTTPS icon in the address bar for defined sites.

Use HTTPS quite useful, as it ensures your security when you browse the site like Facebook or Twitter in a public network WiFi, because it increases the security by encrypting your identification information.

You can download Use HTTPS from Chrome web Store.

Facebook chat is one of the most widely used apps on Facebook. It enables users chat with their online buddies. However, one annoyance is, Facebook’s new chat bar (shown in the lower right corner of the screen) lists all offline and online friends in mixed mode, so you need to move up and down in the chat list to find your friends, which is boring, especially, if you have large number of fiends in your list.

Why Facebook displays offline friends in the chat list? People can use this list to send message to offline friends and the message will be displayed to them when they are online. However many Facebook users do not use this feature.

Here is how to hide offline friends from Facebook’s chat list in Internet Explorer 9 (IE9)

First, copy and paste the below code into Notepad and save it as CSS file. For that, select ‘Save as’ in Notepad, in the ‘File name’ box enter ‘fbchat.css’ (without quote) and in the ‘Save as type’ box choose ‘All Files’.

.fbChatOrderedList li.item,
.fbChatOrderedList li.separator {
display: none !important;
}
.fbChatOrderedList li.active,
.fbChatOrderedList li.mobile {
display: block !important;
}

Now, launch IE9 and click ‘Tools’ menu (Alt + X) and choose ‘Internet Options’. Then select ‘Accessibility’.

In the pop up window, choose ‘Format documents using my style sheet’. Browse the CSS file (you just created) and click OK to save the settings.

That’s all! Your offline users will no longer be visible. See the changes by going to Facebook.

Note: You can always reverse it back to normal by unselecting ‘Format documents using my style sheet’ option.

Though Firefox and Google Chrome users can use this code to hide offline users, but not as simple as Internet Explorer. So, if you are a Firefox or Chrome user, you can use the following add-ons to hide offline users.

For Firefox user

You can install the add-on called Tidy Facebook Chat to hide offline Facebook friends from the chat list. You can download Tidy Facebook Chat from Mozilla add-on site.

For Google Chrome users

You can install the extension called Facebook Chat Fix to hide offline friend from Facebook chat list. You can install Facebook Chat Fix from Chrome Web Store.

There are several little things that you can fine-tune on Facebook to stay safe and private. For example, limiting unnecessary friend request from strangers or unknown people that you do not want to know. For many Facebook users these requests are annoyance, but unfortunately, many of them don’t know how to control it. By making small changes in your privacy setting, you can limit the possibility of receiving Facebook friend requests from strangers.

To get to know about your profile on Facebook, there are many ways. One way is from the ‘People You May Know’ box that often appears to the right of the Facebook news feed.

The default privacy settings allow Facebook to reveal your profile to everyone (public). However, by making small changes in your privacy settings, you can restrict your appearances in the ‘People You May Know’ box to only friends of friends. Here is how it is.

Go to your Facebook privacy settings page (click on the downward arrow shown at top right of your page and select Privacy Settings) and select ‘How You Connect’ option, then choose ‘Edit Settings’ option.

For the question ‘Who can send you friend requests?’ select ‘Friends of Friends’ and then click ‘Done’ to save the settings.

Now onwards your profile will appear in the ‘People You May Know’ box to only for people who are friends of friends. (Via)

One new feature of Facebook Timeline is users can charm their Facebook home page by adding a cover photo. Here is how to create an awesome cover photo (also profile picture) from your Android phone using a free app called Facebook Timeline Covers by D33P and upload it right to your Facebook Timeline.

Step 1: Download Facebook Timeline Covers by D33P from Android Market and install it.
