To protect your privacy, all modern web browsers provide an option to delete browsing history and cookie data, but not all browsers are able to deal with data stored by plug-ins. For example, flash local storage objects (also known as flash cookies) cannot delete the same way as we delete browsing history and cookie.

So, even if you delete browsing history and usual cookie data from the browser, data stored by plug-ins (here it is flash cookies) can still open a way to track what you are doing online.

However, the latest version of Google Chrome (Dev channel, Canary, and Chromium builds) and Internet explorer (IE8/IE9) can delete flash cookies from with in the browsers. This was made possible by the NPAPI ClearSiteData, which Adobe has implemented in the latest build of Flash Player 10.3.

To enable this option in Google Chrome, go to Tools – Clear browsing data (Ctrl + Shift + Del) and check the checkbox near the middle of the dialog, which appears ‘Delete cookies and other site data and plug-in data’.

For Internet Explorer, Flash cookies will delete when you delete your normal cookies with ‘Delete Browsing History’ option. If you select this option, Flash Player will automatically clear your Flash cookies (more info here)

Note: For IE, this feature only works if you have installed latest Flash Player 10.3 (RC) and use it with IE8 or IE9.

Evercookie is a latest web danger and the usual tools for removing cookies (flash cookies and normal cookies) won’t work on it, because Evercookie stores cookie data in multiple ways, so tracking information can’t be easily deleted. If you are worried more about your privacy, you should think twice of them.
Most people now know about cookies. They are bits of data on your computer that can be used to trace your internet habit, and are often used to remember your login information at websites.

Now the question is how to kill this Evercookie? There is a tool called Anonymizer Nevercookie that claims to kill them, while still letting you keep useful cookies on your hard disk.

Anonymizer Nevercookie is a free Firefox add-on. Install it and launch Firefox. (Nevercookie is used with private browsing mode, so ‘Choose a user profile’ screen may appear, if you haven’t used Firefox user profile previously). Then, go to Tools – Start Private Browsing.

A new browser window will open. It will be branded with a blue Navigation Menu bar. Use this window for your private browsing session and without keeping Evercookie.

To leave private browsing mode, close the private browsing window in the parent Firefox window, go to Tools – Stop Private Browsing. (via – Jkwebtalks)

Adobe Flash is an indispensable component of today’s computer system. To watch rich video content or to play games online requires flash. Unfortunately, flash is also a most vulnerable element in a computer system (read this article); there are several reported exploitations in recent days. The only solution to prevent exploitation is to update flash to the latest version.

Adobe doesn’t have a good auto-update system for flash, so you need to manually update your flash version to the latest one. To check the installed version of Flash Player, just visit this Adobe website, there you’ll see a page as shown below.

Right top shows your installed flash version, bottom shows current version. If both of them are different update flash player from here.

If you use multiple browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera, you should update each one’s flash plug-ins separately. For Google Chrome you should upgrade your browser. Hope you’ll enjoy this post!

When you clear your browser history on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X LSO’s are not cleared from Adobe’s local repository.

Many sites are using flash cookies to track your movements. The purpose of this tiny, invisible flash module might be to simply record the page request, and your username or other session variables. However the upcoming version of Adobe Flash Player may have browser privacy mod.

Here is a tiny utility called KFC flash cookie cleaner to wipe all flash cookies from Windows, Linux and Mac OSX operating systems.

Note: Flash cookies are notoriously resilience. It takes 3 or 4 passes to erase them all. Make sure to run the utility until there are no more errors. Download KFC Flash Cookie Cleaner.

As told in my earlier posts there are two types of tracking cookies – normal cookies and flash cookies. Web sites stores cookies on your computer usually for collecting information about your surfing habits.

For privacy reasons you can remove cookies from your computer. There is an option in your browser for that, but unfortunately you can not delete Flash cookies by this way, it still offers unlimited tracking.

You can manage flash cookies a little bit by going to Adobe’s Settings Manager, but you can not eliminate them completely by these settings. That means you need some other methods to remove flash cookies from your computer.

You can manually or automatically remove flash cookies. Here is a simple technique to completely remove flash cookies using the well known privacy cleaning software CCleaner.

[Note: Please enable ‘Show hidden files and Folder Option before proceeding. For Windows XP go to Windows Explorer – Tools – Folder Options – View and enable ‘Show hidden files and Folder’ option. For Windows 7 & Vista got to Windows Explorer - Organize - Folder and Search option - View – and enable ‘Show hidden files, folder, or drivers’]

For Windows XP:

Run CCleaner and add the following two folders to the Include List. For that go to Options – Include – Add Folder, and then navigate to:

C:\Documents and Settings - User name – Application Data – Macromedia – Flash Player – #SharedObjects

C:\Documents and Settings – User name – Application Data – Macromedia – Flash Player – macromedia.com – support – flashplayer – sys

Now add the following file to the Exclude list. For that go to Option – Exclude – Add file and browse the following file.

C:\Documents and Settings – User name – Application Data – Macromedia – Flash Player – macromedia.com – support – flashplayer – sys – settings.sol

For Windows 7 and Vista users: Add following two folders to Include list

C:\Users – User name – AppData – Roaming – Macromedia – Flash Player – #SharedObjects

C:\Users – User name – AppData – Roaming – Macromedia – Flash Player – macromedia.com – support – flashplayer – sys

In the Exclude list add the following file

C:\Users – User name – AppData – Roaming – Macromedia – Flash Player – macromedia.com – support – flashplayer – sys – settings.sol

Now when you run CCleaner it should empty/clean both flash folders but protect your flash settings.
