The Android M preview is out, but it is going to be a while before it comes to current devices. That does not mean you cannot taste some of its visual pleasures already. For example, Android M comes with a new launcher that you can install on any phone running on KitKat or Lollipop. Read on to know how to get official Android M launcher on any phone.

Though there are no significant changes from the Lollipop launcher UI, Android M has a redesigned app drawer. Apps are now listed in a vertically scrollable single page and in alphabetical order. In addition, there are four app icons at the top of the app drawer, which will change, based on your recently used apps, so you can access your favorite apps quickly. The search button at the top makes it easier to find the application you want.

You can get the official Android M launcher on any phone running on KitKat and Lollipop. An XDA contributor ported the official Android M launcher to work on any device. All you need to install the Velvet app (Google app) and Google Now launcher on your phone.

How to get Android M Launcher on any Phone

1. Download Velvet.apk (Google app) [HERE] and transfer it to your phone’s memory card. Install the APK file (Do not forget to enable ‘Unknown Sources’ option from settings menu).

2. Now, go to Play store and install the Google Now Launcher.

3. Once the Google Now launcher is installed, go to your phone Settings -> Home -> select Google Now launcher and then tap ‘Always’ option. Alternatively, long press on the Home button and select the launcher.
