Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains non-urgent security fixes as well as patches that should make Windows 7 more stable. However, some users have few issues for installing Windows 7 SP1 (see my previous post).

After installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you might receive the following error message on a blue screen: “Error C000009A applying update operation {###} of {###} (\Registry…)”.

This is because of unused language packs on your system. Microsoft has issued a solution to this problem.

To resolve the Error C000009A, restore your computer to a point in time before you installed Windows 7 SP1. Then, uninstall any unused language packs, and then reinstall SP1.

To restore your computer to a previous point in time, you’ll need to use the System Recovery Options menu. Read here how to use the System Recovery Options.

The Netflix application in Windows Media Center may encounter an error when it initiates video playback after you install IE9 RC on Windows 7. Microsoft has released a fix for that issue.
To fix this problem automatically, visit here and click the Fix it button to download a file. Then run it and follow the steps in the Fix it Wizard.

Advanced users can fix it manually. Press Win +R keys to enable the run command box. Type regedit.exe to open the registry editor.

  1. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Software – Microsoft – Internet Explorer – Main – FeatureControl – FEATURE_USE_LEGACY_JSCRIPT (If the sub key FEATURE_USE_LEGACY_JSCRIPT does not exist, create it. Right click New- Key).
  2. Now click Edit – New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type ehexthost.exe, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click ehexthost.exe, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  4. Once gain click Edit – New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  5. Type ehexthost32.exe, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click ehexthost32.exe, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

However, when trying to install the service pack 1, some users of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has got issues, for example error code 0x800F0A12, FFFFFFFE. and 84C40007.
1. Error code 0x800F0A12 means, the installer cannot access the system partition of user’s computer to update files. Following are the few reasons for this situation.

The system partition isn’t automatically mounted, Windows is running on a storage area network (SAN), and a disk management tool from another software manufacturer was used to copy (or clone) the disk or partition on which you’re trying to install SP1.

To solve the issue or to mount the system partition, users can run the command mountvol /E. For that, open the command prompt in administrator mode. More details about this subject are available here.

2. Another issue is update error code FFFFFFFE. It means that an update can’t be installed because of a problem on your computer. This problem is usually caused by a virus infection.

To solve this problem, the recommended method is to reinstall Windows 7 using the Custom installation option and format the hard disk. More details on this subject available at here.

3. Another Windows Update error is 84C40007 (for Windows Server 2008), which means an update to SQL Server 2008 can’t be installed because of a problem with a .NET Framework installation.
