I have been using Dropbox cloud storage and sync service for sometimes now and the service is extremely good at what it does, but it misses one feature – an automated solution for organizing files, which I think useful to make things much more easier. However, there is a webapp called Sortbox, which helps us organize our stuffs automatically between Dropbox folders. Here is how it is.

Sortbox is a free webapp that will create a new folder inside your Dropbox and any new file you added to that folder will automatically moved and organized to their correct location based on rules you define.

First, go to Sortbox and login with your Dropbox account. Then create rules (Sortbox offers three types of rules) based on file extension name, file type, and pattern.

For example, select “Extension equals” from the dropdown menu, then type file extension name such as jpg, png, doc, mp3, etc in the next column and choose appropriate Dropbox folder under “Move file to” column.

This app will check the contents of your Sortbox folder every 15 minutes and if any file in it that match your rules will move to its correct location.

Sortbox is certainly a useful service, especially if you would like to organize your files automatically on your Dropbox cloud storage.

If you aren’t happy with the ringtones that came with your mobile phone and want a tone that is something unique, here’s a simple online solution. Free ringtone maker is an online ringtone editing tool that simplifies the process of audio editing by means of easy to use tools and a basic user interface.
With it, you can generate unique tone for your iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and other phones from any song or audio file with a few steps and the tone can be downloaded to your computer, cell phone or email to a friend.

A great advantage of using Free ringtone maker is that it supports multiple audio formats such as AAC, FLAC, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, etc. The first step is to upload an audio file for editing.

Just upload an audio file from your computer or from a web URL. Then, find the portion of the song you like by moving markers. Use the play button to hear the tone.

It has 3 modes to choose – Easy, Advanced and Expert mode. Choose easy mode to make a tone quickly. This mode includes a ‘Normalization’ feature that amplifies the sound and ensures there isn’t any unwanted audio and a fade effect. Add a fade effect to the beginning, end, or both of the audio.

From ‘Advanced’ mode you can enhances the tone by applying some effects such as silence (Removes silence from the beginning or end of the audio) bass, treble, reverse, etc.

From ‘Expert’ mode, you can add additional effects such as echo, chorus, high pass, low pass, tremolo, etc to your track. Using this mode requires some expertise and knowledge of sound signals.

After editing and applying effects to your track, set the ringtone file format (for example, M4R for iPhone, MP3 for most of the others) and delivery mode. Then click “Make Ringtone” button. Visit http://ringer.org to make your own ringtone.

The obvious benefit to backing up your files to the cloud is that you are able to access your files from anywhere on any internet connected device, but at the same time you don’t want to worry about data security. Of course, cloud storage services will store your data securely, but if you encrypt your personal files before backing them up to cloud, you can ensure a much better security.

There are several solutions available to encrypt your files before uploading them to the cloud storage. For example, the simplest solution is using a free compression tool like 7-zip to encrypt your file using AES-256 standard before uploading them.

If you are looking for an automated encrypting solution for your cloud storage services, you may like BoxCryptor.

BoxCryptor is a cryptographic virtual hard disk that encrypts all data on-the-fly using the AES-256 standard. Encrypted data is stored in an arbitrary directory of your choice, e.g. one that is synced to the cloud like your Dropbox or Google Drive folder.

How to setup BoxCryptor to encrypt personal file and synced it to your cloud storage?

After installing BoxCryptor, run it (Windows). In the first window choose ‘Create a new encrypted folder’ and click next. Here choose a folder, for example, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc and click next. Choose a drive letter and click next. Enter a password and click Finish button.

It will create a new drive in Windows explorer. Open this drive and any file you put here (or drag and drop here) will encrypt and synchronized to your cloud storage in real time.

Note: The encrypted files can only be decrypted on your local machine by using BoxCryptor. Only by using the BoxCryptor drive, you can see your decrypted data and work with it like any other data on your pc.

To get access to several settings or to change your encrypted folder you can open the BoxCryptor Main Window. Right click on the little padlock in your notification icons list and click on “Show BoxCryptor”.

Note: The free version of BoxCryptor lets you create only 2GB of virtual hard drive and supports only one cloud storage at a time.

BoxCryptor is available for Windows, Android, iOS, Mac and Linux. It can be downloaded from developer’s website here.

Last month I had posted an article here on ‘how to save Gmail attachments directly to Google Drive’, Google’s new cloud storage and sync service. It allows you to save all your Gmail attachments directly to Google Drive from the attachment list with a newly added ‘Save To Drive’ link option, however, it’ll work only with your Chrome browser. If you want to save your Gmail attachments to Google Drive from other browsers and mobile devices, here is how it is.

Step 1: Log in to your Gmail account and then enter this Goggle Docs page. It’ll open in your Google Docs page titled “Make a new copy of this Document?” Click on “Yes, make a copy” option.

Step 2: This’ll open a page titled “Copy of Send to Google Drive”. Click on the menu “Gmail” and then choose “Initialize” option (see screenshot).

Step 3: It will pop up a window with authorization request. Click OK to confirm the authorization request.

Step 4: Return to the previous “Copy of Send to Google Drive” page and once again click on the menu “Gmail” and then choose “Run” option. After getting the successful message, close the page.

Step 5: Go to your Gmail, open a mail and click “Label” option. Choose Google Drive from the list and click ‘Apply” to save the attachments to your Google Drive account. [Via –Digital Inspiration. If you have received any error, please refer his article for troubleshooting guide]

Google has launched its cloud storage and sync service Google Drive with 5GB of free storage space. Google Drive lets you upload and access all of your files, including videos, photos, Docs, PDFs, etc securely from anywhere on your computer or Android device. In addition, you can share your files with exactly whom you want and edit them together, from any device.

Google Drive is available on Windows and Mac computers as well as on Android devices. It will also be available for iPhone and iPad in the near feature. You can get started with 5 GB of free space and can be upgrade to 25 GB for less than $2.50 a month and you can store practically everything for next to nothing.

With Google Drive, you can:

Create and collaborate: Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Store everything safely and access it anywhere (especially while on the go): You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet. Google is working hard on a Drive app for your iOS devices. And regardless of platform, blind users can access Drive with a screen reader.

Search everything: Search by keyword and filter by file type, owner and more. Drive can even recognize text in scanned documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.

Though not much information about it features available yet, current information reveals that Google Drive will be a strong competitor to similar services like Microsoft SkyDrive, Apple iCloud, DropBox, etc.[via]

epub and mobi (for Amazon Kindle) documents can be read on any mobile devices that this format support , for example iPad, iPhone, Sony Reader, Nook, Kindle, etc.
